  10. I just got the following. I CANNOT VERIFY THIS. However I do know the
  11. aircraft (hold F down then LOW) toggle does work.

  19. TH28A Mods:
  20.  
  21. 1) Remove the 4 screws holding the radio together.
  22. 2) With your finger in the battery bay, separate the two parts.
  23. 3) The inside of the keypad case has a copper RF shield.  Move this shield
  24.     out of the way by removing the 2 screws and bending it up and away from
  25.     the PC board.  (There may be double sticky tape holding the shield to
  26.     the IC.)  Under the shield you will find a large IC surrounded by
  27.     an array of diodes, as follows:

  43.     NOTE: Diodes D15 & D14 are NOT present in the American version.

  45. 4) Remove diodes D8 and D10.
  46. 5) Install one of these diodes in D14.

  48. This enables the following three extended modes:
  49.  
  50.     1) Extended receive from 360 Mhz to 400 Mhz.
  51.     2) Extended receive from 400 Mhz to 520 Mhz.
  52.     3) Extended transmit/receive from 136 Mhz to 174 Mhz.
  53.  
  54. in addition to the existing aircraft frequencies of:
  55.  
  56.     4) Receive from 118 Mhz to 136 Mhz. (AM)
  57.  
  58. (AM and FM are switched automatically according to the frequency range.)
  59.  
  60. To switch between the modes, press the [F] key for one second, then
  61. press the [LOW] key.  This will switch between:
  62.         a) Amateur VHF band (136 Mhz to 174 Mhz).
  63.         b) 340 Mhz band (340 Mhz to 400 Mhz).
  64.         c) Aircraft band (118 Mhz to 136 Mhz).
  65.  
  66. To get the extended amateur UHF receive, press the [BAND] key while in the
  67. 136 Mhz to 174 Mhz mode.

  99.   I would be careful when cutting diode D10 out though, I did it
  100. (I've done surface mount mods before) and my row 3 keys stopped working
  101. (MEM, 3, etc)  I am positive I didn't clip the wrong diode because I
  102. clipped the connection leading out from the diode (you'll see what I
  103. mean...)

  112. The above is available from the diode that I mentioned above.  By the way,
  113. the mods presented here hold some validity as they come from a tech sheet
  114. that I got from the dealer.. a certain big mail order company down the states)

  122. This mod comes from simply holding down F and hitting LOW.  If this is
  123. all you want, don't cut anything.. I shudder at the thought at clipping
  124. out surface mount diodes...

  143. I bought a couple of TH28A's recently in the States and the guy in the shop
  144. did the mods for me on the spot.
  145.  
  146. The features I have on the radios are those described by the recent
  147. postings..
  148.  
  149. Rx     AM  118.000 - 135.995
  150. Tx/Rx  FM  136.000 - 173.995
  151. Rx     FM  340.000 - 399.995   (Not 360-.. as in a previous posting)
  152. Rx     FM  400.000 - 519.995

  155. Note: The poor thing does not like being tuned much over 500 MHz, it beeps
  156. at you in complaint.
